Saturday Hoops NYC · Playbook

How we play.

The rules every Saturday Hoops player follows — on the floor and off. First-timers get the game mechanics in their welcome ticket; this page has the full picture.

Ball don’t lie

On the court.

  1. 01

    First to 7

Must win by 2. If tied at 8–8, play to 9.

  2. 02

    Scoring

    1s and 2s.

  3. 03

    Format

Play 2, sit 1. Winners stay on for game 1 only. After that, every team plays 2 games then sits 1 — win or lose.

  4. 04

    Time Limit

Games are capped at 10 minutes. When time is called, the game ends — no matter the score. Keep it moving.

  5. 05

    Subs

Rotate subs between every game. When your team is playing two in a row, swap in your subs before the second game starts. Don’t wait.

  6. 06

    Fouls

Offensive players call fouls. Fouled team keeps possession. No and-1s — if you call a foul, the bucket doesn’t count.

  7. 07

    Disputes

Can’t agree on a foul call? The defensive player shoots one three-pointer to settle it. Make it = defense gets possession. Miss it = offense keeps the ball. Call it and move on.

How we treat each other

Off the court.

  1. 08

    Respect

Use players’ stated names and pronouns. Treat every hooper the way you’d want your own crew treated — on the floor, in the group chat, in the DMs.

  2. 09

    Harassment

Not welcome here. That includes threats, unwanted contact, and disrespect on the platform, in the WhatsApp group, over email, or on Instagram and other channels you found through Saturday Hoops.

  3. 10

    Privacy

Don’t share another player’s profile info — photos, pronouns, Instagram handle, emergency contact — outside the league without their consent.

  4. 11

    Consequences

Warning → game suspension → permanent removal. Serious violations skip steps.

  5. 12
