Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 21, 2026
Welcome to Saturday Hoops NYC! This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit saturdayhoopsnyc.com. By using our website, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Personal Information: We collect your name, email address, payment information, and emergency contact information (name and phone number) to process orders, provide our services, and ensure player safety.
Payment Information: All payments are processed by Stripe. Your full card number, expiration date, and security code are entered directly into Stripe's hosted forms and never reach our servers. When you save a card for one-click registrations, we store only a Stripe customer identifier, a payment-method token, and your card's brand and last four digits — used to display the card on your account page and to initiate charges you authorize on the site (single-game and credit-pack purchases, subscription renewals). You can remove a saved card at any time via the “Manage” button on your account page, which opens Stripe's secure customer portal.
Profile Information (Public): You may optionally provide a profile photo, pronouns, height, preferred basketball positions, jersey size, Instagram handle, and a username (profile URL). These fields are displayed on your public player profile at saturdayhoopsnyc.com/user/<your-handle> and may appear on game roster pages and in highlight clips. Every field is optional except where noted below.
Height (Required): Height is required when you save your profile so the team-matching algorithm (see Section 4) can balance teams. Your height is shown on your public profile alongside your other stats.
Gender (Private): You may optionally share your gender (Woman, Man, Nonbinary, or Prefer not to say). This field is kept private — it is never displayed on your profile, never shared with other players, and is used only as one signal feeding the team-matching algorithm described in Section 4. You can clear this field at any time.
Instagram Handle (Public, External Link): If you provide an Instagram handle, it is displayed on your public profile as a link to your Instagram account. We do not access your Instagram data; the link opens Instagram's own site, which is governed by Instagram's policies. If we share highlight clips on our Instagram account, we may tag your handle so people can find your account.
Non-Personal Information: We may collect certain non-personal information, such as website cookies, to improve your browsing experience.
Video and Game Footage: We record game sessions and generate highlight clips for players. By participating in a session, you acknowledge that games are filmed and that highlight clips may be created from the footage.
2. Purpose of Data Collection
We use the information we collect to process orders and provide services effectively. Non-personal data helps us enhance user experience on our website.
3. Data Sharing
We respect your privacy. We do not share your personal data with any third-party organizations.
Emergency Contact Information: Your emergency contact information is shared with other players registered for the same game session on the day of the game. This information is only visible to logged-in players on your game day and is provided solely for safety purposes during gameplay.
Public Profile: Your name, profile photo, pronouns, Instagram handle, height, preferred positions, jersey size, games attended, highlight clips, and game wins are visible on your public player profile at saturdayhoopsnyc.com/user/<your-handle>. Any of these fields can be cleared via the profile editor. See Section 5 (Your Choices).
Game Roster and Team Matchups: When you sign up for a game, your first name and profile photo appear on that game's roster page, visible to other registered players. When teams are assigned (see Section 4), your team color is also shown on the roster and included in the team-assignment emails sent to you and your teammates.
Instagram Tagging: If you provide an Instagram handle on your profile, we may tag your handle when we post highlight clips on the Saturday Hoops NYC Instagram account so viewers can find you. Clear the handle from your profile at any time to stop this.
Highlight Clips: Highlight clips generated from game footage are displayed on the website and are visible to logged-in players. By default, all players' highlights are included. Game footage and highlight clips may also be used in promotional materials, including the website homepage, social media, and advertisements. By participating in a session, you consent to this use. Opting out of promotional use does not remove you from other players' highlight clips where you may appear. To opt out of having your highlights displayed or used in promotional materials, contact us at evan@mail.saturdayhoopsnyc.com.
4. Automated Team Matching
Approximately 24 hours before each game, we run an algorithm that assigns registered players to teams (Black, White, and Blue). The algorithm is designed to produce balanced, varied matchups across games.
Inputs used: height, preferred positions, a skill proxy (highlight clips per past game attended), past same-team co-occurrence across recent games (variety), gender (as described in Section 1), and a “no-subs perk” flag if set.
Gender is never displayed. When a player has set a gender, the algorithm uses it only to spread non-male players evenly across teams where possible. Your gender value is never shown on your profile, never shared with other players, and never surfaced in any email.
Admin override: Saturday Hoops NYC admins can manually regenerate or clear team assignments for any game. You may also request a different team or opt out of auto-assignment for any game by emailing us.
A plain-language explanation of the algorithm's signals and current weights is maintained publicly at TEAM_MATCHING.md in the Saturday Hoops NYC codebase.
5. Your Choices
Edit or clear profile fields: You can update or clear any profile field at any time via /profile/edit. Changes take effect immediately; cleared fields are not used in any downstream system (team matching, public display, emails).
Optional fields: Pronouns, Instagram handle, gender, jersey size, positions, and username are all optional. Height is required when you save a profile so the team balancer can work.
Account deletion: To delete your account and associated data, email evan@mail.saturdayhoopsnyc.com. Game footage and highlight clips in which you appear may persist where they also feature other players; to request removal from specific clips, contact us at the same address.
6. Children's Privacy
Saturday Hoops NYC does not knowingly collect any data from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child without proper consent, we will take steps to delete the information promptly.
7. Updates to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If there are any significant changes, we will notify you via email.
